INVICTUS is a Collective Art Show curated and produced by Because Art Matters in Porto.

Derived from the Latin in-victa — that which remains unconquered, unyielding, and raw —, INVICTUS marks the inaugural presentation of Because Art Matters in Porto. Taking the form of an exclusive 4-day pop-up exhibition at Garagem Atlântico, this brief yet intense intervention reflects a long-standing reverence for the North of Portugal: a region defined by a genuine character, deep heritage, and fierce creative resilience.

The showcase proposes a direct collision between the industrial atmosphere of the space and the intensity of the New Contemporary Art movement. Bringing together a curated selection of our gallery’s roster artists alongside invited guest artists, INVICTUS frames artistic creation as a belief system, as conscious resistance.

Set against the raw concrete and structural scale of Garagem Atlântico, the works establish a strong visual presence and a direct contrast between the raw matter of the space and the unique language of the artists. INVICTUS marks a proud new chapter for Because Art Matters and is contemporary art’s response to Porto’s visceral and resilient identity.
